Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Bowl Season (12/30)
Quarterbacks
Play of the Day: Billy Edwards, Maryland (vs Auburn)
Billy Edwards gets his second start of his career and he has a ton of fantasy potential. Edwards has looked like a decent passer in his limited action, but it is his legs that really impress me. He has the perfect combination of size and speed to succeed at the college level and he gets an amazing matchup to show off his skills. Auburn is the 3rd worst run defense in the SEC allowing nearly 160 rushing yards per game. Edwards is very affordable at just $7,800 and while his passing abilities may be a bit shaky, he can deliver solid fantasy value with just his rushing abilities.
Carson Beck, Georgia (vs Florida State)
Beck and this Georgia offense have me a bit perplexed. Obviously Georgia will steamroll FSU, but the utter domination could lead to a short outing for Beck and the rest of the Georgia stars. If the stars do get pulled early, they would have to have been productive though right? Even with a blowout likely in the makings, Beck and the other Georgia stars provide a secure floor as this team should easily post 40+ points so there will be plenty of production for these guys to absorb.
Jaxson Dart, Ole Miss (vs Penn State)
Dart is the biggest wildcard on this slate. He has elite fantasy potential anytime he takes the field, but he struggles against good defenses and Penn State is more than a good defense allowing just 223 total yards per game and 11 points. Dart has crumbled against Georgia and Alabama when he averaged just 10.4 FDP and Penn State is a defense that is almost at the level of those two. Dart and the rest of this Ole Miss offense could be tournament winners but they also could be lineup wreckers so play them at your own risk.
Andrew Peasley, Wyoming (vs Toledo)
Peasley has been a decent runner and a decent passer but when combining those two attributes he becomes a fantasy darling. He does not put up crazy numbers, but he is great at coming through in the clutch and finding the endzone. He has passed for 20 TDs and rushed for 7 in just 11 games. Wyoming should dominate this game since Toledo will be without their offensive stars so Wyoming will control the time of possession meaning there will be plenty of opportunity for Peasley to produce especially on the ground.
Running Backs
Play of the Day: Jarquez Hunter, Auburn (vs Maryland)
Hunter opened the season in the doghouse as he was forced to miss the opening game due to off the field issues, but around mid-October, he reclaimed the lead back role and was once again a real fantasy weapon. In games where Hunter operated as the lead back and received 15 or more carries, he is averaging an impressive 20.5 FDP. There is no reason why Hunter will not be the top back for Auburn and carry a heavy load which will lead to a great fantasy day.
Harrison Waylee, Wyoming (vs Toledo)
With Wyoming expected to cruise this game, Waylee will be given every chance to succeed against this Toledo defense. The weakest part of this Toledo team is their run defense. They give up nearly 150 rushing yards per game while playing the majority of their games in the MAC so there is no reason to believe why this Wyoming rushing attack will not succeed against them.
Jacquez Stuart, Toledo (vs Wyoming)
This pick is conditional on the availability of Peny Boone. I do not expect Boone to play and if word drops that he will play before kickoff, I will pivot off of Stuart. But with Boone out, Stuart is an elite option. He has been a good runner as a complimentary piece to Boone averaging 5.3 yards per carry in his career. He is also a good receiver out of the backfield recording multiple catches in 4 of his last 5 games while in a part time role. The Wyoming run defense has taken a step back this year giving up 145 rushing yards per game, not horrible but beatable. Toledo will be working with their backup QB so there should be plenty of usage for Stuart as both a runner and pass catcher.
Penn State RBs (vs Ole Miss)
If there was only one lead back in this backfield, they would be the Play of the Day but unfortunately, this is a RBBC. Luckily, both of the top guys do not need a ton of usage to produce solid fantasy numbers. The Penn State offense is predicated on the running game and Ole Miss' biggest hole is defending the run so this is the perfect formula for a huge fantasy day for one of these backs. Kaytron Allen has been the guy who has had the most opportunity this year but not too much more than Nicholas Singleton so either of these guys could produce great numbers in any given game. If I had to pick one, I would roll with Allen but you really cannot go wrong with either.
Wide Receivers
Play of the Day: Ladd McConkey, Georgia (vs Florida State)
Someone in this Georgia pass catching group is going to have a huge day since they are playing a low morale FSU and it is looking like Brock Bowers will miss this game since he is still struggling with ankle problems and has not been practicing. With their top pass catcher out, LMC is going to be the guy in this offense. In the 3 games where Bowers was out or limited due to injury, LMC averaged 17.6 FDP. There is only one other WR on this slate who offers this kind of upside and consistency and he is almost $2K more expensive. LMC is a terrific value so take advantage of him.
Ole Miss WRs (vs Penn State)
The best way for Ole Miss to attack this Penn State defense will be through the air. Ole Miss has a group of terrific WRs but they do cannibalize each other's production a bit. There is an obvious alpha in this group as no WR offers the explosive upside that Tre Harris does. He's had multiple blow up games and even has a 3 TD game under his belt. He is very expensive and does not have a reliable floor but the upside is very tantalizing.
KeAndre Lambert-Smith, Penn State (vs Ole Miss)
At one point, KLS was a model of consistency, recording 6 or more catchers in 5 of 6 games while in midseason form. That production quickly dipped when he had a rough showing against Michigan and he became an afterthought against Michigan State when PSU dominated them. Luckily, Ole Miss will not be able to shut him down like Michigan did and he will be a necessary part of this offense if they want to keep pace with Ole Miss. KLS is a safe play and he does have elite upside if this Ole Miss offense is able to produce against the PSU defense and turn this into a competitive, high scoring game.
Jerjuan Newton, Toledo (vs Wyoming)
Toledo has had a great year, but it has been on the back of their running game with their passing game falling by the wayside at times this season. The dominance of the running game came from the studs Dequan Finn and Peny Boone, two guys who are expected to be out this game. With their top playmakers out, Toledo will have to do a slight shift in their offensive mindset so they can rely on some of their other playmakers. One of the main playmakers who has fallen off a bit is Newton. He is a great WR, but more importantly he is a huge redzone threat. Over Toledo's first 6 games he scored 9 TDs! While he has not scored since those games, his talent is undeniable and a QB change may be all he needed to have a huge comeback game.
Wyatt Wieland, Wyoming (vs Toledo)
The Wyoming passing game is not very prolific, but Wieland is the closest thing they have to a top wideout. He is not a huge yardage guy as he has only topped 50 yards twice all year, but he is one of the team's top weapons in the redzone. He has 6 TDs over 12 games which is by far tops amongst Wyoming WRs so if Wyoming is able to score a lot of points, there is a high likelihood that Wieland was one of the guys to find the endzone. You will need a TD for Wieland to be worth rostering since his yardage alone will not suffice, but he has been good enough in the TD department to be worth a shot.
