Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 11 (Wed)
Quarterbacks
Play of the Day: Dequan Finn, Toledo (vs Eastern Michigan)
How can you not play Finn? Have you seen the other QBs on this slate? Finn is the only QB who is a bonafide fantasy producer. He is guaranteed to hit double digits with 30+ point upside. He is a decent passer and a good runner so he will not leave you disappointed. Pay up for Finn or you will be left behind.
Aveon Smith, Miami (Ohio) (vs Akron)
Smith is the only other QB you can play on this slate with any kind of confidence. He has been productive before especially as a runner so you know he will not leave you completely disappointed with less than 10 points. He was a mediocre passer last year, but a terrific runner. Smith ran for 50+ yards in his last 6 games last season so now that he is once again the starting QB for Miami, expect his running game to take off. Akron is not a good team so Miami should win this game resulting in a lot of rushing attempts for Smith. He has a solid floor with an enticing upside so he is worth paying up for.
Connor Bazelak, Bowling Green (@ Kent State)
I cannot give a full fledged endorsement of Baselak, but out of all the lesser QBs on this slate, Bazelak has the most appeal. He is still stuck in a QB rotation, but he has been earning more and more playing time, but that timeshare still lowers his floor and ceiling. Bazelak's lack of consistent playing time has led him to pass for more than 150 yards just twice all year. Bazelak does not consistently score or put up solid yardage totals, but he occasionally has a blowup game as he has scored more than 20 twice this year. Bazelak is a big gamble if you want to get different, but he will likely disappoint you.
Running Backs
Play of the Day: Peny Boone, Toledo
Boone is clearly the best back in the conference so any time he is on a MAC slate, he demands your attention. He has rushed for 100+ yards in 6 of his last 7 games and still rushed for a fairly solid 73 yards the one time he failed to reach the 100 yard mark. Simply put Boone will not leave you disappointed and he has elite upside with a 200+ yard, multiple score game already under his belt. Eastern Michigan is fairly susceptible against the run so Boone should have no issues succeeding in this one.
Bowling Green RBs (@ Kent State)
Terion Stewart's status remains up in the air so there are some questions surrounding this backfield, but regardless of who is carrying the ball, they are in line for a big day. With Bowling Green likely to blowout Kent State, the running game will be heavily involved. Kent State has allowed their opponent's lead back to score 10+ pts in 6 straight games and have allowed 3 backs to score 15+ in their last 4 games. If Terion Stewart ends up out, Ta'ron Keith will be the top value on the slate.
Rashad Amos, Miami (Ohio) (vs Akron)
Like Bowling Green, Miami should cruise to an easy win this week. With an easy win on tap, expect a heavy dosage of Amos. He is looking more and more like a bell cow back as the weeks go on. He had a solid 21 carries last week and expect a little more will Miami likely just trying to run clock for the majority of the second half. Amos is very safe this week, but Aveon Smith does steal away some of his upside due to his own rushing acumen.
Samson Evans, Eastern Michigan (@ Toledo)
Evans is a TD machine. He has 7 TDs over his last 5 games and had 28 combined TDs over his 2 previous seasons. Do not expect much more production beyond TDs as he has not rushed for more than 70 yards in 6 straight games. He is a complete TD or bust player, but I like his chances of scoring a TD even against a tough Toledo front.
Wide Receivers
Play of the Day: Jameel Gardner Jr., Kent State (vs Bowling Green)
With Crishon McCray likely out for the rest of the season, there is a big void in the Kent State passing game that needs to be filled. I like Gardner's chances of filling that void. He has the second most targets in 5 of their last 6 games so it would only be natural for Gardner to step into that WR1. With the possibility of securing a WR1 for just $5,000, Gardner is a must play.
Daniel George, Akron (@ Miami (Ohio))
With Jeff Undercuffler Jr. at QB, George is a must play. In the two games with Undercuffler starting at QB, George has had his two best games of the year. He has double digit FD points in both games while garnering an absurd 14+ targets in each. Akron should be playing from behind so expect a lot of George usage. Daniel George is the safest WR on this slate.
Jerjuan Newton, Toledo (vs Eastern Michigan)
Newton is another TD or bust player. Like Samson Evans, he also scores a lot. Newton scored 8 TDs over his first 6 games, but has hit a bit of a dry spell failing to score in 3 straight games. If Newton does not score a TD, he is not worth your time. He has not scored more than 6 FD points in the games that he failed to score a TD. Newton is risky, especially with Toledo expected to cruise in this one, but Newton did score in this same matchup a year ago so he seems like a true 50/50 to me.
Tanner Knue, Eastern Michigan (@ Toledo)
Knue is one of the safer plays on this slate. He has 60+ yards in 3 of his last 5 games, which is production that may seem a bit moderate, but is solid on this light slate. The only thing holding Knue back from being a fantasy star is his team's QB play. QB Austin Smith has struggled all year as he just passed for more than 200 yards for the first time all season last week. Even with weak QB play, Knue remains locked into the WR1 role for EMU so he will get enough usage to be worth his price.
Harold Fannin Jr., Bowling Green (@ Kent State)
In an inconsistent Bowling Green passing attack, Fannin is the closest thing to consistency. With Bowling Green QBs failing to establish rhythm and gain confidence, Fannin is utilized as a safety blanket and ends up one of the most targeted BGSU pass catchers in most games. He also enhances his fantasy game with some additional rushing work and they are always trying to get the ball in his hands at the goal line. Fannin is risky due to the nature of the Bowling Green passing attack, but he is the best bet out of the bunch.
