Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 7 (Fri)
Quarterbacks
Play of the Day: Shedeur Sanders, Colorado (vs Stanford)
This pick is as obvious as it gets. There is no other QB on this slate that comes anywhere close to Sanders' talents. Add in a cake matchup against Stanford and Sanders is a lock for 20+ points with a solid chance of topping 30. I will not bore you with some complimentary statistic because this play is guaranteed. Get him in your lineup or you will miss out.
Michael Pratt, Tulane (@ Memphis)
Pratt is the only other QB on this slate that has shown any kind of fantasy consistency throughout his career so he does deserve your attention. This is his 4th year leading this offense so he is very comfortable making plays and the coaches trust him so he will be given every chance to succeed in what should be a competitive game. Memphis does seem to have his number though, he has failed to top 158 yards in each of their last two meetings but he saved his fantasy day with rushing TDs in each of those games. Pratt is a safe pick; but with a matchup against a tough Memphis defense, his upside may be limited.
Seth Henigan, Memphis (vs Tulane)
Like Pratt, Henigan has been the guy in this offense for years now. He has been nothing but spectacular this year, scoring multiple TDs in every game. He undoubtedly has one of the best arms in the American Conference, but do not sleep on his legs. He only contributes a couple points each game with rushing yards but he is a real threat with his legs at the goal line. He already has two games against Tulane under his belt and has shown out with 300+ passing yards and 3 TDs so he is a great option this week.
Cooper Legas, Utah State (vs Fresno State)
If you like taking risks, then Legas is your guy. He is the ultimate boom or bust player. He struggled to get to 15 points in each of his first 3 games, but since regaining the starting job he has been great. He has passed for 200+ and 3+ TDs in back to back games, but he is yet to face a defense as good as Fresno State so he could end up falling flat on his face this week.
Running Backs
Play of the Day: Makhi Hughes, Tulane (@ Memphis)
Tulane has run all over Memphis in years prior, but that is in large part thanks to Tyjae Spears. Makhi Hughes is no slouch though. Hughes has turned this backfield from a committee to a one man show averaging 18 opportunities over the past three games. A workhorse back against this Memphis front has the makings of a fantastic fantasy day. Memphis has allowed 100+ yards to each of the 3 lead backs they have faced and been getting crushed in redzone allowing 7 TDs to RBs in that same span. Hughes is the one truly safe RB play on this slate.
Blake Watson, Memphis (vs Tulane)
Watson is a fantastic player and is truly deserving of being the top priced back on this slate. I am not sold on him this week though. He gets a Tulane front that is as tough as any team in the nation. Can you name the last RB they allowed to rush for over 100 yards? It was Keaton Mitchell over 2 years ago in 2021. Watson will be involved in both the passing and rushing game so he does still have a solid floor; but he will be inefficient this week, which will significantly lower his ceiling.
Elijah Gilliam & Malik Sherrod, Fresno State (@ Utah State)
With Fresno State running out their backup QB this week, expect both of these guys to be heavily involved. Utah State has been decent against the run, but I expect the Fresno State defense to keep Utah State in check so Fresno should be able to run as much as they want. Out of the two I lean Sherrod, he has more juice which has led to more opportunities as of late so if Fresno State rolls, Sherrod will be having a game. Gilliam is a goal line back and with how much this team will be running the ball, he has stand alone value.
Wide Receivers
Play of the Day: Roc Taylor, Memphis (vs Tulane)
With Tulane's tough run defense, Memphis will be passing A LOT. Taylor is the man who stands to gain the most from this kind of game script. He is Seth Henigan's favorite target with 6 targets in every game except for one. Taylor is riding a 2 game streak of 100+ yard games and I like his chances of extending it to 3, get this man in your lineup.
Terrell Vaughn, Utah State (vs Fresno State)
Vaughn has at least 1 TD in every game with at least 60 yards. Fresno State is good, but Vaughn is great. Vaughn was able to top 20 points against Iowa's tough secondary so he should have no issues producing against Fresno State. Utah State only had 3 players catch passes last week so his usage alone makes him a great play.
Xavier Weaver & Jimmy Horn Jr., Colorado (vs Stanford)
Colorado just does not rotate at receiver. Both these guys play almost every offensive snap so in a pass first offense that are heavy favorites, expect a big game from one if not both of them. They both have at least 6 targets in every game except for one so they have a high floor at the very least and if Stanford can put up a fight, this will be a huge line for these receivers. Out of the two, I prefer Horn since he is the one who has been able to find the open space on a more consistent basis, scoring 3 over his last 4 games. You really cannot go wrong with either of these guys.
Jha'Quan Jackson & Lawrence Keys III, Tulane (@ Memphis)
This Tulane offense has been potent to start the season and it has been on the backs of these two. Jackson is the more explosive player having already broken multiple long TDs this season, but it is Keys has the most consistent usage. Keys has led the team in receiving yards in all of their games but one, and he racked up a whopping 96 yards in that game. Keys is a great floor play regardless of how this game develops, but if this game is competitive both of these guys will be solid plays.
