Slate Breaker: FD CFB Week 6 (Fri)
Kansas State vs Oklahoma State
This Oklahoma State defense is not great, they have allowed 30+ point games to South Alabama and Iowa State in their last two games so Kansas State should have a day. Will Howard is a must play. He is a great passer and decent runner but is great in the redzone with 5 TDs on the ground this season. With Treshaun Ward returning this week, the RB situation is a bit murky. Ward was the top back all season long but after missing the UCF game, DJ Giddens exploded for 57.3 FD points as the feature back. Ward should return to the lead back role but it should be a fairly even split with Giddens claiming a bigger stake in this backfield. The KSU receivers are a bit challenging to tackle. Phillip Brooks is the clear WR1 but this team likes to spread the ball around so it is hard to justify spending $9,200 for a WR that is entirely TD dependent as he is yet to top 100 yards in any game this season. If you want to choose one solid dependable pass catcher for this team, TE Ben Sinnott is your guy. Sinnott has at least 64 yards in 3 of their 4 games and is a lock for at least 8 targets if this game stays competitive. RJ Garcia and Keagan Johnson are both solid dart throws as they have plenty of talent but have been dealing with injuries that have been keeping them from reaching their full potential. The Oklahoma State offense was a bit of a mess to start the season, but it has looked better as of late. QB Alan Bowman took over the reins of this offense against Iowa State and delivered a 24 point game. He may not be worth rostering on this slate but he will benefit the fantasy days of the other playmakers on this offense. Ollie Gordon is the best fantasy player on this offense as their lead back, but with Kansas State expected to dominate from the start, his opportunities will be limited. De'Zhaun Stribling is the leading receiver for this team but given the inconsistency of this passing attack, it is hard to rely on any kind of consistent production from any of them.
Nebraska vs Illinois
You should fill out your flex spot with one of the two QBs from this game to pair with Will Howard. Heinrich Haarberg is expected to remain the starting QB for Nebraska and has had some successful games on the ground rushing for 98+ yards in 2 of his 3 starts and the game he did not do it in came against Michigan. Those other two games did come against teams Louisiana Tech and Northern Illinois so it is best to temper expectations a bit this week. Illinois' QB Luke Altmyer profiles similarly to Haarberg. He is not as good of a rusher as Haarberg but is still decent with 3 rushing TDs this year but he is a much better passer with at least 200 passing yards and a TD in every game except their matchup against the rugged Penn State defense. I like Altmyer more at his relative discount but you cannot go wrong with either. The Running Back situation is much easier to tackle in this game. Anthony Grant is a must start after becoming Nebraska's de facto feature back due to a litany of injuries. Injury questions and a tough Nebraska run defense make Illinois RBs Reggie Love and Josh McCray fades as Nebraska has not allowed a single RB to top 75 yards on the ground this season and they have faced Blake Corum. Isaiah Williams is the one Illinois player that you must have. He is the true playmaker on this offense and he has been on a tear averaging 12.22 FD points without even scoring a TD this season. On the other side, Billy Kemp IV is the only Nebraska pass catcher how has any kind of a floor. He has scored at least 8 points in each of his last 4 games which at a price tag of $6,500 is a valuable floor play. If you want to get a bit different with this game's pass catcher Pat Bryant is a decent play but his role has been fading and Thomas Fidone has a decent shot of being targeted in the redzone.
