Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 9 (Tues)
New Mexico State vs Louisiana Tech
Attacking this game seems fairly easy to me. You want pieces of this New Mexico State running game against this LT run defense. Lousiana Tech has allowed an opposing runner to score 11+ FD points in 7 of their 8 games. QB Diego Pavia is the most obvious person to play from this rushing attack as he has been an absolute machine, rushing for 4 TDs in their last 3 games and rushing for 90+ yards in 4 of his last 5 games. It was Monte Watkins who led the way for the NMST backs a week ago, but this is still Star Thomas's backfield. Thomas had 10+ opportunities in 4 straight games before last week while last week was Watkins's first week with at least 9 touches. The New Mexico State receivers remain a grab bag as it would be rare if one of them caught 5 passes so they will need a TD to be worth rostering, but Jonathan Brady remains the receiver most likely to end up with the most targets. The Louisiana Tech has some solid options at receiver but the rest of the offense should be avoided for fantasy purposes. The LT QB situation looks like a complete time share with Hank Bachmeier and Jack Turner both attempting more than 20 passes a week ago so they are complete gambles with a nonexistent floor. The LT running game seems to be in flux too with lead back Tyre Shelton banged up so expect a big committee even if he does play since he will likely be limited, so the whole backfield is best to avoid this week. But do not worry, the LT receivers provide a lot of value. It starts with Smoke Harris who will likely be the skill player who ends up with the highest usage on this slate. He is locked into 10+ targets and has had 10 or more catches in 3 of his last 4 games. He may be the safest play on the slate. Cyrus Allen and Kyle Maxwell should also provide decent value. Cyrus Allen is the big play threat so he needs just one play to make his day and Kyle Maxwell is a big redzone target catching a TD in each of his last two games and at just $6,100, catching a TD would make him worth his price.
Liberty vs Western Kentucky
Anytime Western Kentucky is playing on a limited slate, Malachi Corley and Austin Reed are must plays. This Western Kentucky offense likes to rotate a lot, but Corley and Reed are constantly on the field and constantly producing. Reed has a floor right around 18 and Corley has a floor right around 10 so even if they have bad games, they would be great plays on this limited slate. There could be value to be had by the rest of this offense, but it is a shot in the dark with how this team uses their players so use them at your own risk. On the Liberty side of the ball there is one absolute must play. Quinton Cooley is continuing to prove he is the best offensive player in the conference. He has 100+ yards in 5 of his last 6 games and has scored 6 times over his last 3 games. With a matchup against Western Kentucky, Cooley is locked into another big game since WKU has allowed an opposing back to score 14 or more FD points in every game this season so lock Cooley into your lineup. QB Kaidon Salter and WR CJ Daniels should both continue to play prominent roles in this offense; but with their high salaries, they will need huge games to be worth their price making them both huge risks. Athlete Aaron Bedgood has been playing an intriguing role in this offense with a handful of carries and targets in each of the past couple games, but those opportunities have come close to the line of scrimmage so he will need a big play in order to deliver value. If you want someone who has a good chance of catching a TD then TE Bentley Hanshaw is your guy, he has 4 TDs this year; but has maxed out at 45 receiving yards so he will need a TD to be worth your time.
