Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 8 (Thurs)
Rice vs Tulsa
This game will be the more competitive game of the two on the slate so this is the game I am more interested in building my lineup around. The Rice side of this ball game is very easy to attack. You want both WR Luke McCaffrey and RB Dean Connors in your lineup. Luke McCaffrey is an elite playmaker and if Rice gets the ball near the goal line, it is going into McCaffrey's hands. He has 6 TDs in his six games and is pretty much a lock for at least 10 targets. He has the highest floor and ceiling out of any receiver on this slate making him an absolute must play. Dean Connors is basically the other half of this Rice offense. He is a decent runner but he is an elite pass catcher out of the backfield. He has 3 games with over 80 receiving yards showing the upside here. He does lack a reliable floor though finishing multiple games with less than 5 points. If you are featuring both of these Rice playmakers then QB JT Daniels makes a great play to complete the stack. Daniels has had some bumps in the road this season but overall he has been a fairly solid producer. He has multiple TDs in every game this season except for a tough season opener against Texas and he has had multiple games with more than 350 passing yards so he does have a fairly solid floor but his lack of rushing ability does limit his upside. The Tulsa side of the ball is hazardous waters. Their top playmaker Marquis Shoulders is out and their QB situation is a big question mark. If I knew for sure Cardell Williams is starting at QB then he would be a great play as he is a great athlete and has a decent arm so he could be the most dynamic player on the slate but after getting benched in the last game he may be out of a job or on a very short leash making him a huge gamble. The WR options are also a big mixed bag. WR Devan Williams was the WR2 all season long finishing with 60+ yards in half their games so far. Kamdyn Benjamin is the WR who stands the most to gain from Shoulders's absence. He is riding a solid streak of production averaging 54 yards over his last 4 games and should see a bump in production as he will be on the field more with Shoulders out. The one guy on this offense who is a sure thing is RB Anthony Watkins who has at least 15 carries in 4 straight games although he has not been very efficient only averaging more than 5 yards per carry in one game which was against an FCS opponent so he will need to score a TD to be worth rostering.
James Madison vs Marshall
This James Madison team is no joke. They are clearly the best team in the Sun Belt and will continue their undefeated season this week. On the Marshall side of the ball, I only care about RB Rasheen Ali and no one else. Rasheen Ali is the majority of this offense with 12 TDs in 6 games. But I have to be honest, I think Ali is a fade this week. James Madison is a tough run defense. They have only allowed one opposing RB to top 50 yards this season; and although Ali scores a lot of TDs, he is very inefficient, only averaging more than 5 yards per carry in 3 games this year. With Marshall likely playing from behind for the majority of this game, Ali will not have the efficiency nor the opportunity to deliver value on his slate high price. On the other side of the ball, I love basically every playmaker. Marshall is bad against the run allowing both opposing RBs and QBs to run free. Marshall has allowed 5 opposing RBs to total more than 10 points in their last 5 games and have allowed 4 opposing QBs to score at least 10 points with their rushing ability in that same span. James Madison's QB Jordan McCloud and RB Kaelon Black are both must plays in this plus matchup as they will be running the ball a lot since they are favorites. WRs Elijah Sarratt and Reggie Brown are both solid floor plays as they are pretty much locked for 50+ yards but the positive game script does worry me as James Madison will not need to pass the ball much this game.
