Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 7 (Wed)
UT El Paso vs Florida International
When developing a strategy for this game, it all comes down to the health of UTEP's QB Gavin Hardison. He himself is not worth a play, but he keeps this passing attack moving. With Hardison at the helm, Kelly Akharaiyi is a great play with Tyrin Smith still struggling with lingering injuries. Akharaiyi Is a dynamic playmaker and is a lock for 5+ targets and 50 + yards with Hardison throwing him the ball, but without his starting QB, he is not a good option for your lineups. Regardless of who is playing QB, these UTEP RBs demand your attention. Delineating RBs Deion Hankins and Torrance Burgess Jr. is a tough task as they are used fairly evenly, but Burgess does get all the pass catching work out of the backfield providing a safer floor. FIU is beatable on the ground so at least one of these UTEP RBs should have a decent game. The FIU side of the ball is easier to attack. Get Kris Mitchell in your lineup, he is a great receiver and looks locked into a 70+ yards per game role. Stacking QB Keyone Jenkins with Mitchell could be a great combo as Jenkins is looking better and better than by the week, this is the safest stack on this limited slate. The rest of the FIU offense is a bit of a crapshoot. RB Shomari Lawrence looks to be losing his grip on the starting job with Kejon Owens looking like the more explosive back, but their lack of pass catching basically makes them TD dependent. The rest of the FIU WRs is basically just a shot in the dark; but if you want the one guy who has the best odds of putting up a good line, Jalen Bracey gets at least one drawn up play every week so he always has a chance at a long TD.
Sam Houston vs New Mexico State
If there is one thing I am sure about with this slate, it is how to attack Sam Houston. RB Tobias Weaver and WR Noah Smith are must plays. Sam Houston will be missing 4 of their top backs this week so I have to imagine that Weaver will be on the field for basically every snap. While I expect Sam Houston to lose, the Sam Houston lead back is still a valuable role since they love passing to their backs. Following some injuries to their WR corps, Noah Smith has become a great fantasy option recording 10+ catches and 97 yards in back to back games. Keegan Shoemaker is a decent athlete so he could run a lot with the lack of RB depth but there are still better QB options out there. Speaking of which, Diego Pavia is a great option at QB as he is basically a lock to pass for multiple passing TDs and 50+ rushing yards, that is a 20 point floor which is elite production on this very limited slate. The New Mexico State playmakers are tough to predict because they absolutely love to spread the ball around. Star Thomas is the most guaranteed role as he is one of the team's top pass catchers while getting 5-10 carries. WRs Trent Hudson and Jonathan Brady are the best options out of their receivers, but no receiver on this team has a floor above 1 catch.
