Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 7 (Thur)
West Virginia vs Houston
This is a dream matchup for fantasy players. Houston has a good passing attack and a defense that has not been able to stop anyone while the West Virginia offense has looked functional if not competent so expect a lot of offense in this game. You are going to want both of the QBs in your lineup. Houston QB Donovan Smith has looked solid in his new offense passing for at least 225 yards in every game and rushing for 50+ in multiple games. His upside is immense especially with a potential shootout on hand. Get him in your lineup. WVU QB Garrett Greene is a great runner and decent passer. His worst game of the year was a 21.58 FD point game against a tough Penn State defense so expect a BIG stat line against this weak Houston defense. The Houston skill players are fairly easy to predict. They love to pass so a heavy stack with two Houston receivers to pair with Smith is a favorable play in this matchup. You definitely want Samuel Brown as he is the star receiver for this team recording at least 99 yards in every game but one. Mathew Golden and Joseph Manjack IV are both great options. Golden may not put up a lot of yardage but he is featured in the redzone so he has a good chance of scoring a TD. Manjack is locked into a higher usage role with at least 50 yards in every game but one. Parker Jenkins is the lead back for this team, but they just do not use their RBs a lot. Jenkins has only scored a TD in one game and has failed to top 10 points in any other game so he is an extreme boom or bust player. The West Virginia offense is a bit harder to predict. CJ Donaldson is a must start but the rest of their skill players are very hit or miss. Donaldson is locked into right around 20 opportunities every game and if this game does turn into a shootout he is a lock for at least one score. TE Kole Taylor has the most consistent role in this passing attack but that only translates into 3-5 targets per game. He also gets a lot of looks in the redzone so he does have decent upside.
Southern Methodist vs East Carolina
This should be a relatively low scoring game as the East Carolina offense has struggled to find a rhythm all year and SMU is very run heavy which will shorten the game. Neither of these QBs are solid plays with no East Carolina QBs topping 20 points this year. SMU QB Preston Stone could have a decent game but he is not a good runner and this team rushes the ball at least 35 times in every game so his upside is very limited. There will be at least one good SMU RB in this game, but figuring out who is a tough task. Jaylan Knighton has gotten the most work this season, but he has been in the doghouse ever since he got suspended for skipping class so his opportunities have been limited. Camar Wheaton and LJ Johnson Jr. have been productive in limited action but they both have injury question marks. Knighton has the safest floor, but if you want to spice it up and shoot for the stars then one of the latter two is a better option. I would avoid these SMU receivers since there is no true hierarchy and no receiver has top 100 yards in a game this year. On the East Carolina side of the ball, I like Chase Sowell and no one else. Sowell looks to have settled in as the WR1 for this team, recording 7 catches for 88 yards on 10 targets a week ago. Expect a similar performance as East Carolina will have to pass the ball as they play catchup against SMU.
