Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 6 (Wed)
Jacksonville State vs Middle Tennessee
Jacksonville State should win this game fairly easily. They look like one of the top teams in the conference in their first season since being promoted from the FCS. Middle Tennessee's defense has not been able to stop their opponents all year long so expect a big day out of the Jacksonville State playmakers. Jacksonville State wants to do one thing on offense and one thing only, run. And if you want to secure the majority of this rushing attack in your lineup put Logan Smothers and Malik Jackson in your lineup. Since taking over as the starter for this offense, Smothers is averaging 27.55 FD points per game and he is a tremendous value at $9,000. Malik Jackson is a relatively new starter for this team as well and he has made the most of his opportunities with back to back 100 yard games. Jackson and Smothers will get more usage than any other players on this slate so they are must plays. With Jacksonville State's passing attack being meager at best, the receivers are very hit or miss, but if you have to choose one I would go with either Quinton Lane or Perry Carter. Quinton Lane is their true WR1 and will end up with the most targets but there is just not a lot of work to go around. Perry Carter is their home run threat so he may not get any work in any given game, but if he connects on one play, he will be worth his price. Nicholas Vattiato has been able to consistently move this offense but fails to find the end zone on a consistent basis. With two great rushing QBs it is hard to justify paying up for Vatiatto on this slate. I do like 3 players on this offense, Jaiden Credle, Justin Olson and Elijah Metcalf. Credle has been a good dual threat coming out of the backfield. While Frank Peasant has gotten more work, Credle has been far more dynamic with the work he has gotten. Justin Olson is not the top receiver on this offense, but he has a clearly defined role working out of the slot. He always seems to finish 2nd or 3rd in targets each game and with MTSU having to pass a lot to keep pace with Jacksonville, he should have a safe floor to fall back on. Elijah Metcalf is the guy I want the most on this offense, he is the true WR1 but has not built reliable chemistry with Vatiatto.
Florida International University vs New Mexico State
Just like Jacksonville State, New Mexico State LOVES to run the ball. They could not get a better matchup as FIU has struggled to stop the run all year. They have allowed four 100 yard rushers over their last four games. I have the same approach for NM St as I did for JVSU, I am featuring Diego Pavia and Star Thomas in all my lineups. Pavia is the majority of this offense finishing as the lead passer and lead rusher in most games. He has not rushed for a TD all season so he is due. Star Thomas is another great playmaker finishing as the team's leading receiver while also consistently leading the team in rushing attempts. I only want these two guys from this team because the receivers are not consistent yardage producers making them completely TD dependent. Keyone Jenkins has been a solid QB for this FIU team but he lacks the rushing upside to play him over Pavia or Smothers. Kris Mitchell is the one guy on this whole slate that you have to put in your lineup. He is the true WR1 on this team and has been very productifve since being paired with Keyone Jenkins with at least 73 yards in every game. Kejon Owens and Shomari Lawrence could be productive but their split workload really hurts their upside.
