Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 3 (Fri)

Quarterbacks

Play of the Day: Taulia Tagovailoa, Maryland (vs Virginia)

Virginia just lost and got roasted on the defensive side of the ball by James Madison, so as you will see throughout this list, I like Maryland a looooooot. Tagovailoa is not good but he is not bad either. He will pass for a lot of yardage but does not score a lot of touchdowns. In a juicy matchup like this, I will take Tagovailoa and his offensive teammates any day of the week. The blowout risk does hurt his ceiling a bit, but the QBs are not deep on this slate so the Maryland QB is a must play even at $11,200.

Zac Larrier, Air Force (vs Utah State)

If you want air yards out of your QBs then Larrier is not your guy. He has 6 pass attempts this season compared to his 33 rushing attempts so you should know it is all about the rushing with this guy. Utah St should be able to stack the line against Air Force but Larrier is great at running the triple option so he should be able to find some green grass, but with no passing game to balance out his line he will need multiple rushing scores to be worth his price.

Cooper Legas, Utah State (@ Air Force)

Legas has really settled into his starting role in his second year in the gig. He has not had a blow up game yet hovering right around 15 points making him a fine play at just $8,200. Do not be surprised if Legas does end up the top scoring QB in this slate though, his first game was against a tough Iowa defense and he did not play the entire game against Idaho State. Legas also already has a successful outing against this Air Force team with his greatest college game coming in this matchup a year ago when he passed for 215 and 2 while running for 76 and 1. If Legas can get his legs going again, Legas will be a Slate Breaker.

Frank Harris, UT San Antonio (vs Army)

Frank Harris is a great college QB, but he is just not healthy right now. Even if he does end up playing, his mobility will be limited so he is a definite fade.

Running Backs

Play of the Day: Kevorian Barnes, UT San Antonio (vs Army)

Barnes has clearly established himself as the bell cow of this offense handling 42 carries while rushing for 206 yards through the first two games. With Frank Harris likely out or limited, Barnes could be the focal point of this offense Friday. This is a golden opportunity for him with Army struggling to contain the run giving up 124 yards and 3 TDs to UTSA RBs in this same matchup a year ago. Barnes is a dynamic runner so with a ton of work ahead of him this week, you should want as much exposure to Barnes as you can get.

Roman Hemby, Maryland (vs Virginia)

Hemby is one of the most well rounded backs in the country. He is a threat in both the running and passing game having already compiled 220 rushing yards and 69 receiving yards in just 2 games. Add in the matchup against the subpar Virginia defense and not much needs to be said. Hemby needs to be in your lineup.

Owen Burk, Air Force (vs Utah State)

Burk and Ferrier are almost the entirety of this Air Force offense as they make up 2/3 of the triple option. Burk's game is much more about quantity than quality as you know he will be running it up the gut on a consistent basis but he is not a very efficient runner so while he may get 20+ carries that will most likely translate to 60-80 yards so for him to really be worth his price he will need to find the end zone. But if you do what to get off Barnes and Hemby, then Burk is your guy.

Wide Receivers

Play of the day: Corey Dyches, Maryland (vs Virginia)

I am telling you, the Terrapin offense is going to eat on Friday. I needed to have some kind of exposure to a Maryland pass catcher and through two weeks, Dyches has established himself as Tagovailoa's favorite target, securing 6 catches in both games. I should not need to twist your arm too badly to get Dyches in your lineup because he is so cheap since he is only the 3rd highest priced Maryland pass catcher at just $6,800.

Terrell Vaughn, Utah State (@ Air Force)

There is no WR that compares to Vaughn on this slate. Through two weeks; he has 23 catches, 166 receiving yards and 3 TDS. Air Force may seem like a scary matchup on paper but he was dominant against a tougher Iowa secondary so do not overthink it, get Vaughn in your lineup.

UTSA WRs vs Army

I do not know how much I can trust these guys if Frank Harris is not playing but these are the most consistent pass catchers not named Vaughn on this slate. I like Tykee Olge-Kellogg the most out of the top three since he is cheap at $6,300 and is guaranteed at least 5 targets with Harris throwing him the ball. Joshua Cephus is definitely the safest play of the three being featured as the top pass catcher on the team but the $8,700 price does make me cautious about putting him in too many lineups with no guarantee of consistent QB play. Do not play De'Corian Clark until you see him play a full allotment of snaps because they are easing him back really slow.

Isaiah Alston, Army (@ UTSA)

Yep I am recommending a pass catcher for Army. I guess I should rephrase it a bit to be more persuasive, I am recommending THE pass catcher for Army. Army does not pass a lot but when they have this year it has gone to Alston. Through two games, he has 11 targets for 6 catches 182 yards and 2 TDs. He is going to break all the school's receiving records at this pace. The potential for a goose egg does score me but UTSA is good against the run so Army should have to air out the ball quite a bit which means Alston should get steady work. Heavy utilization paired with a $5,600 price tag makes Alston a worthy risk on this limited slate.
