Slate Breaker: FD CFB DFS Week 2 (Fri)
Indiana State vs Indiana
This is a tough matchup to call. Indiana is one of the worst power 5 schools, but Indiana State is the Indiana of the FCS. Indiana State's opening game they got crushed 27-0 and only had 219 total yards and that was against a fellow FCS team, so even a bottom of the barrel FBS team like Indiana should crush them. But how bad will they crush them? I cannot trust any of these Indiana QBs so I will not be prominently featuring them in my lineups. I do feel good about these Indiana RBs as they should get steady work especially if these young QBs struggle. I like Jaylin Lucas and Christian Turner the most as the two combined for 78% of the RB carries a week ago. As you will see below, I think my only plays in this game will be the top two Indiana backs as I like featuring them in lineups together to have the vast majority of the production for what should be a busy Indiana rushing attack. If you feel like you need an Indiana receiver, then Cam Camper is your guy. He was the first read on the majority of the routes he ran last week, but if this is an easy enough matchup for the QBs to perform well enough to get Camper involved then there is serious blowout risk which really hurts Camper's ceiling. I would not touch any of these Indiana State players.
Illinois vs Kansas
This is going to be a competitive game for these two teams which should hopefully lead to big fantasy numbers. I do not see many winning lineups that do not feature this game's QB battle. Illinois's QB Luke Altmyer looked locked in against Toledo passing for 211 with 2 scores and rushing for another 69 yards. Illinois should need to score points in this one to compete so Altmeyer should be busy. Jalon Daniels is the most expensive player on the slate for good reason as he should be the top play, but a big question is if he will play. After looking like he will play last week, Daniels ended up missing the game, but it seemed like he could have played if the opponent warranted it and this week looks like a near lock that he will play with reports of him playing circulating as early as Monday this week. The RBs in this game give me some pause. Kansas has the talented Devin Neal leading their backfield but Illinois is a big challenge on the ground as they ranked top 10 against the run in the entire country last year so given his expensive price, Neal is too big of a risk given the chance he gets stifled by a tough defense. Illinois on the other hand does not have a clear cut lead back and neither of the main backs are explosive players so they do not provide much intrigue even on this small slate. It is the pass catchers on this slate that pique my interest. The Illinois receiver to choose is obvious, Isaiah Williams is the obvious star of this offense he led the team in targets a week ago while also getting some rushing attempts so you know he will be busy Friday night. The Kansas receivers are more of a mixed bag as they have three guys who could have a good day. Luke Grimm would be the receiver I would feature the most in my builds but he is dealing with an injury and given the lack of clarity on the situation he is a fade for me. Lawrence Arnold and Quentin Skinner should both be busy on Friday but I like Arnold's guaranteed floor since he does end up as the top targeted receiver in most games, but both should be relatively good plays. I also like both the team's top tight ends. Mason Fairchild and Tip Reiman are not world beaters but they both have a floor above zero with the chance for a TD so they are good plays if you are paying up in the rest of your lineup.
